He is an IAS officer from the 1987 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). His home state of Bihar as well as the Government of India have given him various important positions.

During his career, Shekhar Jamuar held positions such as District Magistrate (DM) in a number of Bihar districts, Principal Secretary in the Bihar government’s departments of Planning and Development, Revenue and Land Reforms, and Joint Secretary in the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Aside from these positions, Shekhar Jamuar has also served as Chairman of Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited and Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited.

As an administrator, Shekhar Jamuar has been known for improving governance and service delivery in the areas he served. Among the awards, he has received are the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration and the Bihar State Energy Conservation Award.
