Google on Tuesday remembered Indian poet Balamani Amma with a doodle on her 113th birth anniversary.
Balamani Amma was born in Thrissur district of Kerala in 1909. Amma is said to have never received any formal education.
She was educated at home from her uncle Nalappat Narayan Menon. At the age of 19, Amma was married to V.M. Nair done by
Koppukai, Amma's first poem, was published in 1930. Thampuran honored him with the 'Sahitya Nipun Puraskaram'.
Amma wrote her poems in Malayalam and her works were recognized throughout South India.
Some of her most famous poems are Amma (Mother), Muthassi (Grandmother), and Mazuvinte Katha (The Story of the Axe).
Grandmother was awarded many prizes
for literary works and Amma's daughter Kamala Das received
the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1984
